The Patin Spanish Championship will take place in Cadiz (South of Spain) in less than a month. So far I have been sailing quite consistently this season, being 4th in the Spanish Cup (pictures, pictures) and 5th in the Catalan Championship (results, pictures, pictures) but the Spanish Championship is the most competitive competition, even more than the European Cup. This is due to the fact that most of Patin sailors are from Catalonia and Andalucia and the Spanish Championship is the oldest competition in this sailing class. We can expect strong winds in Cadiz, not my favourite conditions, but it should be fun.
Right before the Catalan Championship, my brother and I changed our masts. We are using now Superspars masts, a well known mast manufacturer from the UK. We’re getting better performance than the old Holland masts, especially in leeward legs. The Superspars masts react much quicker to changes in tension and it feels much more power in leeward legs. I got a new sail from Quantum based on the new mast but I am still not convinced with it in windward legs. It’s probably a problem of the skipper, not the sail…
Favourites for the Spanish title are Quim Esteba (current European and Catalan champion), Oriol Castella (5 times Spanish Champion) and local Ramon Calero (2 times Spanish Champion).
I hope I can train a bit more before the competition. Moving to a new appartment and business trips will make it challenging.
I’ll keep you posted.
